As always, ADHDKC has a variety of events coming soon!
We'll plan on offering both in person and virtual opportunities to join us in February, but if sufficient numbers don't sign up to attend in person, we will only meet online.
Bring a friend to:
1) Make it easier to join the group.
2) Help boost the numbers to allow the school doors to stay open.
3) Make it more fun and a better learning experience to meet in person! Conversations among participants help to build the value of meeting, and this is much easier to do in person.
It’s easy to share our newsletter with your friends and family!
Find details of our events below or open this in your browser to use the top menu to find what you’re looking for: upcoming meetings for each of our groups, special events, and recordings of past meetings - yes, January’s parent event is there. As promised, it was FABULOUS, so be sure to check it out. (Link below in this newsletter.)
The showing of “My Ascension” followed by Q&A went well despite the cold weather. The panelists fielded a number of great questions. You can now view the documentary for a limited time and the Q&A will be shared on the Mental Wellness KC social sites soon. (Both Facebook and Instagram are @mentalwellnesskc.)
Meet the ADHDKC Professional Advisory Board
This month we celebrate one of our newest Professional Advisory Board (PAB) members. While most of our PAB members come from the medical or mental health fields, Leila Lawson is police sergeant. We hope that she can bring new perspectives to our organization and lead us to better serve new aspects of the ADHD community.
February Parent Group Event
Checklists of Champions! Making student checklists work at home.
The session will provide a framework for parents to develop and revise checklists for students as a means of building long-term functional independence.
When: February 6, 2024, at 6:30 PM
Where: Online and Horizon Academy*
We hope to hold this talk both in person and online but will require a minimum number of participants to keep the school doors open. Invite friends to join you - whether online or in person, it's always nice to know another face! Make sure they sign up too — that way they count toward the minimum participation number.
Ask a friend to join you and share this newsletter.
ADHDKCTeen for middle & high school students
The next ADHDKCTeen event will be February 6, 2024, at 6:30 PM CST. It will be both at Horizon Academy* and online.
*A minimum number is needed to keep the Horizon Academy doors open and we’re already almost there. If youth don’t feel comfortable going alone, they can invite a friend or a parent to join them. The interactions in person can help practice the very skills discussed with this topic. Remember: kids who are already confident socially are not the ones signing up. Everyone will be with others who feel the need to learn more. You’re all having similar feelings. There’s value to being with these peers.
