GETTING UNSTUCK: MOTIVATION, AVOIDANCE & GETTING STUFF DONE
ADHDKCTeen's January Event
Middle & High Schoolers: Join Us for Our Next Session!
Tuesday, January 6th • 5:30 PM CST
Free • Online • Open to ALL middle & high school students
Kick off the new semester with us at our next ADHDKCTeen meeting! This session welcomes any middle or high school student who wants to understand their brain better, connect with peers, and learn real-life strategies for getting unstuck.
We are also excited to share that Kristen Stuppy, MD — pediatrician, ADHD advocate, and longtime facilitator — is returning while Stefany is on maternity leave. Kristen brings a supportive, down-to-earth approach that teens love, and this next session is packed with practical tools.
✨ What We’re Talking About in January
This session focuses on a topic nearly every ADHD teen struggles with: lack of motivation to complete tasks and how to take control over avoidance and procrastination.
Together, we’ll break down:
🔄 Why ADHD Brains Get Stuck
Why boring or overwhelming tasks trigger discomfort
How the ADHD brain seeks instant relief
Why procrastination feels good in the moment but keeps you stuck
What actually happens in the brain (hello, dopamine + barking-dog amygdala!)
🧠 Why ADHD Brains Work the Way they Do
Lower dopamine and motivation hurdles
Time blindness and urgency addiction
How stress shuts down your “wise owl” thinking brain
Why this is not laziness — it’s neurobiology
📉 The Impact on Your Daily Life
We’ll explore how avoidance can affect:
Schoolwork & deadlines
Friendships & communication
Stress levels
Confidence
Future goals
💡 ADHD-Proof Strategies You Can Use Right Away
Kristen will share 5 practical tools teens can use immediately. You’ll get real examples and ideas for using these at home or school.
We’ll talk about ways to work with one another to actually USE these tools following the session to:
Track progress
Share wins
Support each other
Stay accountable
This continued community interaction makes the strategies stick!
💬 Purely Interactive — Not a Lecture
There will be frequent questions for the group to help keep everyone from spacing out. (Yes, it’s a group of ADHDers.…) You choose how you participate — cameras on or off after the ID check is fine! (Everyone will need to show their true likeness for verification as they join and we encourage keeping them on to help with participation, but they can be turned off if preferred.)
👥 Who Can Join?
Any middle or high school student — diagnosed with ADHD, questioning symptoms but not officially diagnosed, or simply wanting to understand motivation, distraction, or procrastination.
You do not need to be a member of CHADD or ADHDKC — but we encourage parents to join CHADD for even more benefits!
To help keep this a safe and supportive space for all participants, we ask that everyone:
Turn on their video briefly at the start of the event so our moderators can verify attendance.
Use the same name on Zoom that was used on the RSVP form to help us confirm identities.
You do not need a camera on the whole time. Just bring yourself, curiosity, and a willingness to try something new.
Parents or caregivers are welcome to join alongside their teen if their teen would like the extra support. However, adults attending without a teen will not be admitted unless they have been specifically invited by ADHDKCTeen administration. This policy helps us maintain a safe environment for the youth participating.
Everyone in attendance must agree to the CHADD Participation Agreement.
🔔 Please Note
This session is presented by a licensed pediatrician and is intended to provide general information, guidance, and support around ADHD-related topics. While we’ll cover helpful strategies and leave time for questions and discussion, please keep in mind that this presentation is not a substitute for personalized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
If you have specific concerns about your own situation or that of a loved one, we encourage you to follow up with your healthcare provider or a qualified mental health professional. We also ask that everyone respect the privacy of others and help us maintain a supportive, inclusive space for open dialogue.

🌟 Help Others Find ADHDKC!
If you’ve had a positive experience with ADHDKC, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to leave us a review. Your words help other families find support, encouragement, and care — just like you did. 📝 Click here to leave a Google review
Thank you for being part of our community. Every review helps us grow and continue making a difference!
🎉 Show Your ADHDKC Spirit!
If you show off your ADHDKC spirit by wearing our shirt or hat or carry around our water bottle, or notebook, you can help ADHDers feel connected and remind us we’re part of something bigger. It can start a conversation to let someone struggling with ADHD learn to thrive by discovering our resources.
Due to increased shipping costs during the holiday season, our supplier has increased costs from October 15th through January 17th. To accommodate for this, we are increasing the cost of all items except stickers by $0.50. This surcharge helps offset increased carrier costs that take effect every year at this time.
Let’s celebrate our community, our stories, and our shared mission—together.
