  2. Our Women with ADHD group will continue the discussion about addictions in February and March. Women are also invited to join their private FB Group to continue conversations outside of the monthly meetings. Learn more below!

  3. Our Adults with ADHD group will talk about self management.

  4. ADHDKCTeen for middle and high school students continues to grow. Encourage your adolescent to join and learn about topics related to ADHD, including actionable tools to use to help manage symptoms.

  5. Find ADHDKC at the Blue Valley Special Needs Resource Fair - details below!

After the sections describing our local group events, you can find some great resources, including CHADD Tool kits and TOOLS - free videos to help your kids learn important skills!

Rejection Sensitivity

Did you know that rejection sensitivity is a common feature of ADHD? Many teens and adults with ADHD are more sensitive than usual. Nearly 1 in 3 say it's the hardest part of living with ADHD.

Rejection sensitivity refers to fear of non-acceptance and intense feelings around the experience of being excluded. ADHD researchers estimate that by age 12, children with ADHD get 20,000 more negative messages about themselves than neurotypical kids their age. All that criticism can deflate their self-esteem. Any sense of rejection, even in situations where there is no intended rejection, can set off a stress response and cause an emotional reaction that's much more extreme than the situation requires.

Natalie Bergman, JCCC Program Counselor and expressive therapist at Signature Psychiatric Hospital will discuss how rejection sensitivity may be affecting your child and strategies for helping them cope with these feelings.

Coming in March! Learn why it’s important to treat your child now!

Kids and adults with untreated or poorly managed ADHD are at 3-5 times the risk of developing an addiction at some point during their lifetime.  If a family already has a history with substance use disorder, that risk can almost double.

Diagnosing and treating ADHD early on has been shown to greatly decrease the possibility that our children will struggle with addiction.

Join ADHD parent coach Jeremy Didier as she shares what all parents of kids with ADHD need to know about Substance Use Disorder and ADHD to set their family up for success

When: March 7 at 7:30 PM

Lindsey Leach, a certified Social & Emotional Intelligence Coach, leads the Adults with ADHD group. This group is for adults with ADHD, their significant others, and those who are interested in learning more about thriving as an adult with ADHD. Friends and family are welcome, and you do not need to have an "official" diagnosis to attend.

The title is in a teal box, and says self management, with the ADHDKC adult's group logo and a "make it happen" sticker. It is surrounded by squares of orange, yellow, and white with drawings of people doing various tasks, such as chopping food, washing dishes, sweeping the floor, reading, talking with a child, and doing yoga.

The February group will talk about self management.

Over time, ADHDers find healthy ways to navigate day-to-day that work well for them. We are all different, but listening to others' ideas and experiences can help spark a tip or trick that is worth trying out even after feeling like we've tried it all. This will be a rich topic so we will carry it over to March's monthly adult get together as well!

Location: Johnson County Library - Monticello, Monticello Conference Room

When: Sunday, February 19th, from 2-3pm

Space is limited! RSVP is required. Please let us know if your plans change so we can open your seat to someone else!
