Before We Share Details, A Special Thank You
We are incredibly honored that the students and staff at Blue River Elementary School selected ADHDKC as the charity for this year’s annual school walk fundraiser!
Not only did they raise support for ADHDKC, but they also took time to learn more about ADHD along the way. A special thank you to teacher Lisa Culbertson and school counselor Kala Pelate. They choose books about ADHD to share with the students so they could better understand ADHD before the event. By combining education with action, Blue River is helping create a more informed, compassionate community—and every student benefits from that understanding.
Funds raised will help ADHDKC continue providing valuable resources for families affected by ADHD, including:
Monthly speaker-led educational events for parents
Support groups for adults and women
ADHDKCTeen interactive online learning opportunities for middle and high school students
Quarterly online book club to discuss books about ADHD [NEW IN AUGUST]
We hope families navigating ADHD will take advantage of these programs and find the support, education, and connection they deserve.
Thank you, Blue River Elementary, for your generosity, compassion, and commitment to making a difference!
Why Can’t I Stop?
Impulse Control, Risk & Doing What Matters
Middle and high school can feel overwhelming when your brain seems to move faster than your ability to hit pause.
Do you ever:
Act before thinking and regret it later?
Struggle to stop gaming, scrolling, or procrastinating?
Make risky choices in the moment even when you know better?
Feel like your brain wants one thing, while your goals need something else?
If so, you’re not alone — and you’re definitely not broken.
Join ADHDKCTeen for an engaging, interactive online event designed specifically for middle and high school students to better understand impulsivity, ADHD, motivation, and how to make safer, smarter choices.
What Teens Will Learn
During this supportive and relatable session, participants will:
Better understand why ADHD brains often struggle with impulse control
Explore how impulsivity affects emotions, decision-making, motivation, and daily life
Learn how ADHD can increase vulnerability to risky behaviors
Recognize common triggers that make impulsive choices more likely
Build practical strategies for slowing down, making safer decisions, and doing what matters most
Strengthen confidence through systems that support success rather than relying on willpower alone
This event combines real-world strategies, interactive discussion, relatable examples, and practical tools teens can actually use.
Why This Matters
Impulsivity doesn’t just affect homework or chores — it can impact friendships, emotional regulation, self-esteem, safety, and long-term goals.
By understanding how their brains work, teens can begin building stronger self-awareness and practical skills to:
Pause before risky decisions
Reduce emotional reactivity
Improve follow-through
Strengthen independence
Build confidence in their ability to manage ADHD challenges
Event Format
This is a highly interactive online Zoom session designed for ADHD brains. With a smaller group format (typically 5–10 participants join), teens have space to participate comfortably while learning alongside others who “get it.”
Presented by Pediatric Experts
Kristen Stuppy, MD and Jennifer Dilts, DO - Pediatricians dedicated to helping teens understand ADHD and build practical, real-world skills.
Dr. Kristen Stuppy is a pediatrician in Overland Park with more than 25 years of experience caring for kids and navigating neurodiversity, both in clinic and at home. She’s passionate about helping children and parents understand ADHD and learn practical ways to manage symptoms. While she prescribes medication when appropriate, she also recognizes that many families face real barriers to therapy or coaching. By leading ADHDKC’s monthly teen events, she creates an accessible, welcoming space where middle and high schoolers can build skills, gain confidence, and feel supported as they grow. Check out Dr. Stuppy’s Substack to learn more with her.
Dr. Jennifer Dilts is a pediatrician with a love for blending science, curiosity, and whole-child care. After earning her biology degree from Wake Forest University, she completed her D.O. and MHA at A.T. Still University and her pediatric residency at Riley Hospital for Children. She spent over a decade in general pediatrics before expanding her expertise into headache medicine and medical acupuncture, earning board certifications in both. Dr. Dilts has also completed advanced training in ADHD, anxiety, depression, pediatric hypnosis, and medical education. Along the way, she has served as a principal investigator in multiple clinical headache trials. Her work reflects a commitment to thoughtful, integrative care that helps kids feel better, function better, and thrive. Learn more with Dr. Dilts on the ADHD Mom Docs Podcast.
